World’s best hotel interior is in Riksgränsen

During the evening of 12 September, Niehku Mountain Villa and the Swedish design agency Stylt proudly received UNESCO’s award Prix Versailles for the world’s best interior in the hotel category at a gala in Paris.

UNESCO is United Nation’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation and the award focuses on commercial architecture, with the aim to shine light on the intersection between creation, art, culture and economics.

Our small adventure base in the heart of Swedish Lapland won the award in tough competition with some of the world’s most beautifully designed hotels, like NoMad Hotel in Los Angeles, Kempinski Muscat, and Datai Langkawi in Malaysia. Niehku Mountain Villa is the first Scandinavian hotel to receive the award.

Niehku, means “dream” in Northern Sami and since Niehku Mountain Villa was inaugurated in March 2018 the result is far better than we ever could have dreamed of. Together with Stylt we have managed to create a unique interior with a lot of local and natural materials with a feeling that reflects everything we stand for. Our aim is to give our guests a complete high-end experience of nature,  comfort, culinary dining and good vibes.

We are truly honoured to receive UNESCO’s Prix Versailles, an important international recognition.
