Árbi Suohpan – Sámi Culture & Reindeer
Visit a Sami village, feed the reindeer, throw the lasso and make a short ride with the reindeer sled. A great opportunity to get a glimpse of the traditional life of the Sami people.
In the little Sámi village of Rávttas, 20 km west of Kiruna, we will give you a glimpse of the traditional life of the reindeer people. Some of our reindeer are fed and cared for in a corral during the wintertime. You will get close to them and they will eat from your hand if you’re lucky. Do you know how to throw the lasso like a cowboy? Well, the reindeer herders do it the opposite way. Your guide will teach you how to do it! We’ll harness a few reindeer and take a short brisky ride around the corral. It makes a lot of fun trying to compare the different reindeer characters! After the short ride we will enjoy our lunch with reindeer meat and bread around the open fire in the lavvu (Sami tepee).
