Sámi márkan Jukkasjärvi

For the third consecutive year, during the weekend of 19-21 August 2016, it is time for the Sámi cultural festival Sámi márkan Jukkasjärvi.

– A thriving meeting place where the Sámi are in focus is the purpose of this event. It’s a way we want to contribute to so that the Sámi community diversity, creativity and challenges are highlighted and made visible, says Nils Torbjörn Nutti, owner and CEO at Nutti Sámi Siida, the organiser of the festival.

For this public lectures and discussions will be held in the large lávvu-tent. These include lectures of climate change and the Sámi language. There will also be market stalls with exhibitors from Sámi handicraft, reindeer husbandry, meat processing, etc.

A market concert will be held on Saturday night on the bank of the Torne River with artists such as Melina Kuhmunen, Lars-Ánte Kuhmunen, Yana Mangi and the rapper Kitok.

Sámi márkan Jukkasjärvi is open to all with free admission between 10.00 and 18.00.
