Kebnekaise from horseback 2011
Experience the area around Kebnekaise, the highest mountain of Sweden, from the back of a friendly Icelandic horse. During a couple of days we’ll enjoy riding in many different surroundings, speeds and gaits in the valley in front of the mountain. We move along old transportation roads, paths and also in the terrain – a combination which allows the Icelandic horse to fully use its phenomenal skills to carry a rider safely and comfortably in the different gaits. On top of it all, we’ll be eating on the mountain station of Kebnekaise, located far away from any roads and public transportations. They serve cautiously prepared food, partly based on local ingredients and traditions.
Day 1: After arrival to our horse farm in Puoltsa in the afternoon we have a dinner together and you stay overnight there.
Day 2: We go by car to Nikkaluokta from where we'll saddle the horses and ride west, towards Kebnekaise. We'll go through the fertile mountain valley of Laddjovággi, which leads from the birch forest up to the mountain station, just above the tree line. During the day we stay for lunch which we prepare over open fire. After arrival and having groomed our horses we'll eat a nice dinner inside the restaurant. For those who wish, there's a warm sauna to relax in.
Day 3: After breakfast we'll go further west along the classic and renowned hiking path between Kebnekaise mountains station and the cabins og Singi. How far the trip will be depends on the weather. We'll have lunch outdoor once we chosen a place where the horses can graze and drink water. After a peaceful lunch we'll ride back to Kebnekaise and have a dinner as well as the sauna.
Day 4: Having packed and eaten breakfast, it’s time to leave the
majestic Kebnekaise area and we’ll begin moving back to Nikkaluokta. We’ll stop for lunch on our way down. We’ll return to Nikkaluokta in the afternoon, where we’ll say goodbye to each other and our horses.
