The Silent Journey in the Great Wilderness

0

The huskies will pull us through a fairytale landscape with a rich wildlife. The only sound that you hear is the sled against the snow and breathes from the dogs. This is true wilderness. You will get the chance to really get to know the Huskies and feel how it is to bee a real “Musher”. This tour is for those who really seek an adventure and are up for a challenge!

Day 1 (10-20 km)
After the flight to Kiruna or Kittilä airport, you will be picked up by your hosts Johan or Sara. They will guide you along the road to Kangos, a small village 150 km north of the Arctic Circle set in the northern Torne river valley. After arrival you will meet the huskies. While you are getting to know these remarkable animals, one of the guides is preparing your first wilderness lunch over an open bonfire. After lunch you will receive a introduction into the practical side of "mushing", we will then prepare the sledges and harness the huskies and start this amazing journey through the Arctic countryside.

Day 2-3 (20-60 km)
The days start with taking care of the dogs while the guide is preparing breakfast. After feeding the dogs we all sit down, eat our breakfast and discuss the tour of the day. Then we harness the huskies and heed of. We stop after 2-3 hours and enjoy lunch out in the wild. After a while the dogs are eager to run, and we keep on mushing for 2-3 hours. The days ends with a nice home cooked meal before settling down to sleep.

Day 4-5 (20-60 km)
After lunch on day 4 we will reach the cabins where we are going to stay for two nights. It is a beautiful area with miles after miles with untouched forest. For two nights we will stay in a true wilderness cabin, with none of life’s modern day luxuries. The cabin is situated in a winter feeding for reindeer, hopefully a few will honor with their presence during the evening. On day 5 we put on snowshoes for a beautiful hike in the area and in the evening we enjoy a hot sauna, and for those who wants a cold ice-bath, before settling down to sleep.

Day 6-7 (10-20 km)
These last two days we are heading back towards reality. Now when we know how to handle the teams we can all relax and enjoy the ride. The trail goes on frozen rivers, in deep forests and on shimmering white mires. We spend the last night in a cozy log-cabin and enjoy a three dishes dinner with local culinary. After saying a last goodbye to the dogs we travel by car to the airport.
