During May when we a waiting for the summer to arrive we recommend you to go by train or car from Kiruna to Narvik. You will experience spectacular nature from the beautiful Swedish Mountains to the breath-taking views over the Norwegian Fjords. On the way you will see the big lake Torneträsk and the well known Lapporten which you can se from both Abisko and Björkliden.

Abisko canyon
When you arrive in Abisko and the national park you will find Abisko canyon, with its vertical cliffs and clear water. Abisko Tourist station is only open for self-catering accommodation and will open up fully for the summer on June 7, with the restaurant, shop/rental and mountain guides. At Abisko mountain lodge you can stay and eat well until the May 19. They open again for the summer with lots of activities on June 2.

Silverfallet
The winter season of Björkliden is now over and the summer season starts June 23. But a stop at the beautiful waterfall called Silverfallet is recommended. Just before turning up to Björkliden you’ll have a parking lot on the right hand side. From there you follow the trail down to the lake Torneträsk and Silverfallet.

Rallarkyrkogården (the Navvy Gravesite)
Tornehamn is located a few kilometres from Björkliden. Here you will find one of the most peculiar gravesites in Sweden, Rallarkyrkogården (The Navvy Graveyard), in remembrance of the people who worked with the building of the railroads at the end of the 19th century, as well as a beautiful chapel. To get there make a stop at the rest stop in Tornehamn and cross the E10 on foot and follow the track up the hill.

Skiing in Riksgränsen
Riksgränsen is open until May 29 and offers great off-piste skiing, marked trails and a variety of other outdoor activities. Enjoy some good skiing and a nice after ski. The Northern Most Spa is also worth a visit, presented as one of the worlds 50 best Spa’s by the Observer. In May 17-19 there is a ski competition NM, Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships 2011, taking place in Riksgränsen. They will open up for the summer at Midsummer.

Rombakk fjord
When you enter Norway you can experience contrasts between the late spring and the early summer. The summer, green trees, flowers and the ocean will meet you down in the fjord land and the city of Narvik. Enjoy an ice cream on the square or buy some fresh shrimps in the harbour.
