To Nikkaluokta and Kebnekaise!

If you want to go from Kiruna towards Nikkaluokta, and further to Kebnekaise, it can be good to know when the buses go there. If you don't want to walk all the 19 kilometres to Kebnekaise Mountain Station, then it can also be nice to know when the boat goes across Ladtjojaure.

The buses to Nikkaluokta go daily from the bus station at 10.00 and 14.40, or from the train station 10.05 och 14.45. Departure times for the boat across Ladtjojaure, 19 June – 19 September 2010: towards Kebnekaise the boat goes 09.30, 10.30, 12.00, 14.00, and 17.45.

Kebnekaise

To climb Kebnekaise is not ideal if you're afraid of heights. If you take the Eastern route you will have to go with the guides from Kebnekaise Mountain Station, and the basic skills needed are an age of minimum 16 years, being an STF member, not suffering from fear of heights, and of course being in good health.

If you want to climb the mountain on your own, then you can take the Western route. It also needs previous experience of the mountains, and skills in navigating by maps and by compass.

More about the facilities in the Kiruna mountains!

The mountain resorts in Abisko, Björkliden, Katterjokk, Riksgränsen, Nikkaluokta and Kebnekaise all open for the summer in June. At all these resorts you will find comfortable accommodation and nice food, so it’s of course fully possible to visit them also for non-hikers or non-climbers!

Take a tour to Rombaksbotn!

Some of the mountain resorts arrange guided tours to Rombaksbotn, which was a village with around 500 inhabitants around year 1900. The navvy road, the old material road which was used when bilding the iron-ore line, goes from Abisko on the Swedish side down to Rombaksbotn on the Norwegian side of the border.
